Would a loving, 'biblical' God rule through fear? I could go on all day about this, but I'll sum it up this way, these are my beliefs: We are all born with free will, for a reason. It's up to us to make our own way through life, and make decisions for ourselves, not rely on a two-thousand year old text telling us how to live our lives. (iDoSay made some very interesting points, btw) I do believe that our souls do live on, and I also believe in karma. We reap what we sow. If you're a miserable S.O.B in this life, you'll still be a miserable S.O.B whereever you end up after you leave this plane of existense. And vice-versa for a 'good', decent person. One thing is certain, man has created many religions and has worshipped rocks, rivers, and animals. . But it's only Christians that are devoted to their God to the point of sincerely being willing to die for Him, such was the case of martyrs. That's definitely something you should take into account (Take any pagan, I'm sure not one of them would die for an idol made in gold). This is because zealous Christians (including me) claim to have a relationship with God. In no other religion will you find this, including islam (their false god is "so transcendent, so exalted that no man can ever personally know him"), buddhism (is it really a religion? It can't be avoided, people have to know about Hell to see where the consequences of their acts can lead them.The people you're talking about didn't know Him before going to Church, so it's not surprising they make that image of Him. God was right when He said in John8; 41,42 44 "I have been misrepresented by those who don't know me." He does not rule through fear,for those who know Him, but through love for those who turn from their sins (repent) and make Him the Lord of their life. . You can know Him, by faith (and prayer) and reading the Bible. For faith two important scriptures come to mind:"If you seek me with all your heart, you will find me",Deuteronomy 4:29 Commit your actions to the Lord,and your plans will succeed.Proverbs 16:3. When placing trust (with any doubts) in the Lord you can accomplish a lot in life. You should give it a try. The Bible teaches us how He is and what He's done: He is a God of Love(He says: John 4:16: "I am not distant and angry, but am the complete expression of love" ; 1 John 3-1 "It is my desire to lavish My love on you" and in Psalm 37,4 "delight in Me and I will give you the desires of your heart. When writing these words I just realised how terrible sin is, because you're offending and saddening Someone who loves you with a powerful, undescriptable love no matter what you do. Therefore God does not rule through fear for those who know Him and follow His teachings, but through love. . But those power-hungry madmen are those to blame, not religion, for they are the ones who twist the original message of religion for their own purposes. . You saw a ghost and a UFO !? That's awesome. I have never seen any such thing, but I really do hope you were not impressed when you were laughed at. People thought it was ridiculous, but that's their subjective opinion and they have nothing to prove you are wrong and that ghosts and spirits don't exist.So you should'nt take their opinion in account. Actually there is proof ghosts and spirits exist: exorcism. I'd like to ask the people who laughed at you how come some people become posessed by evil spirits,and how come exorcists use Holy Water, Crucifixes, special prayers to God and even Bibles to cast those spirits (and sometimes demons) out. Those who laughed at you would have probably thought the same things as you if they'd seen those apparitions, and they can laugh as much as they want but it doesn't change the fact that you saw something unormal. Don't put too much trust in human intelligence, it is not infallible. BTW doesn't the fact you saw a ghost or a spirit contradict karma to some extent ? God leaves us free with choice, but of course this choice has consequences. Lastly, I'm not forcing my beliefs on you, that's just what I think. |
